Click here for a free lecture series on advanced political economy. The Series in Advanced Political Economy (SAPE) was launched in 2022, jointly organised by the Departments of Economics at SOAS University of London and the New School for Social Research (NSSR) in New York. The Series has been promoting political economy beyond university walls and created a platform where academics, activists, trade unionists, and many others, could come together to discuss pressing issues and explore ways to address the multi-faceted crises of our time. As of March 2026, these lectures have collectively gained nearly 115,000 views on YouTube, in addition to the live in-person and Zoom webinar attendees. In 2025, SAPE found new collaborators - the Forum for Real Economic Emancipation (FREE) have now joined to organise the Series, and the Series will be hosted by the UK's General Federation of Trade Unions Educational Trust (GFTU ET). Building on the academic and theoretical discussions in the first 2 years, SAPE reached a wider audience, particularly union members, leaders, and shop stewards through the GFTU’s broad network of trade unions in the UK and internationally. || YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@SOASxNSSRxFREE || X: @SOASxNSSR || Bluesky: @soasnssrfree.bsky.social

A myth-busting pamphlet that charts a course out of the current cost of living crisis. We are living through a cost of living crisis, with interest rate hikes and the prices of everyday consumables and energy bills sky-rocketing. Why is this happening? Sometimes we are told that wages are too high, or that the government has "printed" too much money or that events far away, such as the war in Ukraine, are solely to blame. The plain argument that high prices go together with high profits, falling wages, and weak production is often distorted and hidden by mainstream commentary in the media and elsewhere.
